Evening brings back room to breathe

After a 38.6 °C day, the garden regains its balance: illuminated water, an evening breeze and a table bringing pizza and grilled meat together.

Cooler air begins after the sun

On August 4, the Florentine area reached 38.6 °C, with a maximum apparent temperature of 41.2 °C. In the Fantastic Garden diary, weather is part of the day’s record: it explains why the poolside becomes a place of relief as the sun lowers. Reflections on the water, shade from the trees and a light breeze reshape the evening without claiming a measured “microclimate” that has not been certified.

The kitchen accompanies that transition in two familiar idioms. The pizzas, made with natural leavening and selected ingredients according to management, recall the patient rhythm of dough; the All You Can Steak format entrusts the grill with a continuing tasting of different cuts. It is presented as a house practice of summer conviviality, not as a slogan.

The evening exclusive is a limited supply of steak from Chianina-breed cattle, declared to have been dry-aged for 45 days. The accurate PGI name is “Vitellone Bianco dell’Appennino Centrale”; when its specification is met, the certification may cover meat from Chianina, Marchigiana and Romagnola cattle. Scientific literature places 45 days within the established technical range for dry ageing and describes flavour concentration and progressive tenderisation, while noting that results depend on controlled temperature, humidity and airflow.

Florence today · Cinema under the stars

At 9:30 pm on August 4, the municipal “Cinema Tascabile” programme brings a free screening to Piazza Primo Maggio in Brozzi: another Florentine way of inhabiting outdoor space when the day’s heat subsides.

Italy today · Culture in the cooler hours

During August, the Colosseum, Pantheon and Sforza Castle are testing longer evening opening hours. The national initiative also recognises the value of cooler time slots for access to cultural sites.

MET of the day

Prepare fresh water, shade and clear routes; coordinate oven and grill without compressing service; state clearly that the 45-day dry-aged steak is limited and available while stocks last.
